SPECIAL NEEDS TRUST BENEFICIARY

A Special Needs Trust is a legal tool that provides a person with disabilities long-term financial security without jeopardizing eligibility for government benefits like Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income.

Donating part or all of your unused Special Needs Trust assets is an excellent way to make a gift to St. Louis Arc.

If you have already set up a Special Needs Trust to care for your loved one, and would also like to make a gift to the St. Louis Arc, you might consider listing us as the contingent or residuary beneficiary for the Special Needs Trust. When your loved one(s) no longer needs the trust, the remaining assets can be gifted to the St. Louis Arc to help us support other people with disabilities.

You can make a gift of your unused Special Needs Trust assets to help further the St. Louis Arc's mission.

Flowchart: Parent/Guardian/Donor uses assets/property to create Special Needs Trust. Special Needs Trust provides income to loved one(s) until no longer needed. Donor leaves remaining assets to St. Louis Arc.

Benefits of a Special Needs Trust Beneficiary

  • Establish a way to provide for your loved one
  • Loved one continues to use the trust as long as needed
  • Leave a legacy gift to the St. Louis Arc to help others with disabilities

If you want to designate your other children as contingent beneficiaries you can still designate the St. Louis Arc as the residuary beneficiary for any unused assets.

How to make a gift through a Special Needs Trust

  • You transfer assets to fund a Special Needs Trust.
  • Name the St. Louis Arc as a contingent or residuary beneficiary
  • The Trust is invested and makes payments for your loved one's lifetime
  • The St. Louis Arc receives the remaining assets when no longer needed by your loved one.
